Description
GWO Crane and Hoist (CH) Standard Inspection & Maintenance (CHIM) Module Overview The GWO Crane and Hoist Training standard is designed specifically for the wind industry, covering both onshore and offshore environments. The CHIM Module focuses on giving wind technicians the specific technical skills required to safely manage, inspect, and service small fixed lifting equipment found inside wind turbines. Core Objective: To enable technicians to independently support and care for themselves and others while operating, inspecting, maintaining, and testing small fixed cranes and hoists during basic lifting operations, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and manufacturer manuals. Key Learning Objectives & Competencies Technicians undergoing this training will develop the skills to confidently handle the following responsibilities: Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Understanding and applying relevant local/international legislation, safety standards, and manufacturer-specific documentation for lifting equipment. Pre-Use & Periodical Inspection: Identifying wear, tear, defects, and damage on small fixed cranes, hoists, and their structural attachments before and after operations. Routine Maintenance: Executing scheduled maintenance tasks (such as lubrication, component adjustments, and minor part replacements) in accordance with service manuals. Operational Testing: Performing safe load and functionality tests on fixed hoists and small cranes to verify integrity after maintenance work. Risk Mitigation: Assessing hazards specific to wind turbine environments (like confined spaces and offshore weather conditions) during lifting and maintenance tasks. Target Audience This module is essential for: Wind turbine service, maintenance, and installation technicians. Personnel responsible for inspecting and maintaining internal WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) service cranes and nacelle hoists. Offshore and onshore wind industry workers who handle basic, daily lifting operations.
