Description
Overview of GWO Crane and Hoist Basic User (CHBU) Module The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Crane and Hoist Basic User (CHBU) module is a specialized training standard designed for personnel working within the wind energy sector, both onshore and offshore. This training equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain small fixed cranes and hoists. Operating lifting equipment within a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) environment presents unique spatial and environmental challenges. This module ensures that basic users can execute routine lifting operations while minimizing risks to themselves, their team, and the equipment. Core Objective: To enable participants to take full responsibility for personal and collective safety while conducting basic lifting operations using common types of fixed cranes and hoists in a WTG environment. Key Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the CHBU module, participants will be able to demonstrate: Safety Responsibility: The ability to support and care for themselves and others during lifting operations and basic maintenance tasks. Operational Competence: The skills required to safely operate common types of fixed cranes and hoists for basic lifts. Compliance & Alignment: Proper adherence to manufacturer manuals, specific WTG documentation, and relevant local/international legislation. Risk Mitigation: Recognition of hazards specific to onshore and offshore wind turbine lifting environments. Target Audience This training is essential for: Wind turbine technicians and maintenance personnel. Offshore and onshore wind industry workers involved in handling components and tools. Anyone required to operate small fixed lifting equipment as part of their daily routine in a WTG environment. Framework and Requirements The Crane and Hoist Standard is part of the broader GWO safety training framework. To ensure full compliance and certification validity, this standard must always be read and implemented alongside the latest GWO Requirements for Training.
